A masonry contractor based in Fort Lauderdale
J&R Fort Lauderdale Concrete & Masonry is a licensed and fully insured masonry contractor in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and I started it here in 2023 after trading an office desk for a trowel and learning the trade under an experienced mason. We offer 16 masonry and concrete services and have pages for 12 cities around Fort Lauderdale, though those aren't the only places we work. Office work taught me to measure, check and write things down, and I still run every job that way. You can read more on our About page.
What to expect from our masonry crew
A good masonry crew tells you what's failing and why, writes down what they'll use and leaves the work square and clean. Here's how we do that on every job.
The repair you need
We fix what's failing and leave sound brick and mortar alone, so you pay for the repair your house needs and nothing extra.
The owner on site
I measure every job myself and stay on site while our crew builds it, so the person who took the measurements is the one checking the work.
Leaks traced first
Before we patch anything, we find where water is getting in, so the new brick and mortar aren't fighting the same leak.
Estimates you can compare
Your written estimate lists the materials, the mortar and each step, so you can set it beside any other bid and compare line by line.

Masonry contractor services in Fort Lauderdale, FL
J&R Fort Lauderdale Concrete & Masonry is a masonry contractor in Fort Lauderdale, FL, with 16 services in brick, block, stone and concrete, from mortar repairs to new walls, fireplaces and paver driveways. On a repair, the price comes down to how much brick or mortar has actually failed, how hard it is to reach and whether a leak has to be traced first. On new work, it's the size, the material you choose and how much ground prep the site needs. The schedule mostly turns on the size of the job and any permit and inspections it needs. Your written estimate lists the materials, the mortar and each step, so your own figure is there in writing.
Foundation repair
Noticed a crack in your foundation or a wall starting to lean? We find what's moving it first, then repair the block and joints that have failed.
Learn moreChimney repair
A leaking chimney usually has cracked joints, loose brick or a worn crown, the cap on top. We trace where the water gets in and repair that part.
Learn moreTuckpointing
What is tuckpointing? We grind out worn mortar joints and pack in fresh mortar matched to your brick, so the wall sheds water and looks even again.
Learn moreBrick repair
We replace cracked, chipped or crumbling bricks one at a time, matching size and color as closely as we can, and leave the sound brick around them alone.
Learn moreDriveway pavers
We lay paver driveways on a packed base with edging that holds them in place, so a settled section can be lifted and reset rather than replaced.
Learn moreRetaining wall construction
We build block and stone retaining walls where a yard changes level, with gravel and drainage behind them, because trapped water is what usually pushes a wall out.
Learn moreMasonry restoration
Older brick or stone that's stained, cracked and missing mortar can usually be saved. We clean, repoint and rebuild only the worst sections and keep what's original.
Learn moreFireplace installation
Want a masonry fireplace indoors or out on the patio? We build the firebox, hearth and surround in brick or stone, sized to fit the space.
Learn moreStone veneer installation
Stone veneer is a thin layer of real or cast stone. We set it over existing walls, columns and fireplaces to give them the look of solid stone.
Learn moreConcrete block walls
We build concrete block walls for privacy, property lines and garden borders, on a poured footing so the bottom row of block sits level.
Learn moreFoundation block wall installation
For additions, garages and raised floors, we lay the block foundation walls the rest of the structure sits on, checking level and square as each row goes up.
Learn moreOutdoor kitchen masonry
Planning a grill station or outdoor bar? We build the block base, leave openings for the grill and face it in brick or stone to match your house.
Learn moreWalkway construction
We build front walks and garden paths in pavers, brick or concrete, sloped just enough that rain runs off instead of pooling by your door.
Learn moreBrick wall installation
Want a brick garden wall, planter or entry wall? We lay it on a poured footing with even, firmly packed joints and every row checked for level.
Learn moreStone masonry
Stone masonry means walls, columns and steps laid in natural stone and mortar. We fit each piece by hand so the joints run even.
Learn moreBrick pointing
Mortar joints that have gone sandy, sunken or cracked let water behind the brick. We rake out worn mortar and refill the joints, leaving the brick in place.

How a masonry job with us works
Call or send a request
Call (754) 228-0031 or send a request through our contact form, and tell us what you're seeing, whether that's a crack, a leak or a wall you want built. We reply to every call and request within one business day and set a time for me to come out.
I look and write it up
I come out myself and look at the whole job, not just the spot you called about, because the cause of a crack or stain is often somewhere else. Then I write up a free estimate that lists the materials, the mortar and each step, and there's no obligation to go ahead.
We do the work
Once you're ready, we take care of any permit the job needs, from the application with the local building office to scheduling the inspections. Our crew does the work with me on site, checking measurements and joints as it goes up, so what gets built matches what I wrote down.
Walk-through together
When we finish, we clean up and walk through the work with you, so you can see each part, ask about anything and check it against the estimate. I want it square, clean and something you'd be glad to show a neighbor. Your satisfaction, guaranteed.
Masonry questions we hear most
These are the questions Fort Lauderdale homeowners ask me most before they hire a mason. If yours isn't here, call (754) 228-0031 and ask about your own wall, chimney or walk.
How much does masonry repair cost in Fort Lauderdale?
There's no single number, because a repair is priced on how much brick or mortar has actually failed, and I only know that once I've looked at it. Replacing a handful of cracked bricks costs far less than repointing a whole wall, and we quote only the part that's failing.
What makes a new wall, walkway or driveway cost more?
Size matters most, then the material, since natural stone and brick usually cost more to buy and lay than concrete block or standard pavers. Old concrete to break out, soft ground to dig out or a footing to pour all add work before the part you see goes in.
How long does a masonry project take in Fort Lauderdale?
It depends on the size of the job and on any permit and inspections it needs, so I can't give you a fair answer until I've seen it. Replacing a few bricks is a short job, while a new wall or driveway needs footing or base work first, and an inspection can set the pace.
Do I need a permit for masonry work in Fort Lauderdale?
Often you do, because the city's Building Services division issues permits for work that builds, alters or repairs a structure, and when your job needs one we handle the application and the inspections. A small job on a single-family home can be exempt only if it's under $7,500, isn't structural and the house sits outside a flood hazard area, and being under $7,500 doesn't make it exempt on its own. When a contract runs over $5,000, a Notice of Commencement also has to be filed.
How do you find what's causing cracks or leaks in a brick wall?
I look at the whole wall and the area around it, because the spot that shows the damage often isn't where the problem starts. I check whether the brick or just the mortar has failed and where water is getting in, and if the bricks are sound, repointing the joints is usually enough.
What if something needs attention after the masonry work is done?
Call us at (754) 228-0031 or send a request, and we'll reply within one business day, just as we do for any new job. We walk through the finished work with you before we leave, so most questions get answered then, and the promise we make on every job is your satisfaction, guaranteed.
What mortar should be used to repoint old brick?
The new mortar should be matched to your brick and to the old mortar, because mortar that's harder than the brick can make the brick crack and flake instead of the joint. Your written estimate names the mortar we'll use, so you know exactly what's going into your wall.
Do you do masonry work outside Fort Lauderdale?
Yes, we're based in Fort Lauderdale and work across the cities around it, including Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Davie and Plantation, and the city pages on this site aren't the only places we go. Fort Lauderdale only takes permit applications for addresses inside its own boundaries, so for a job in a neighboring city we apply with that city's building office instead.
